such a way as to provide an agreed upon amount of money to be paid over
time. These periodic installments (payments) are a form of an annuity. The
total value, over the life of the contract, is usually an amount far
greater than if a settlement for cash had been agreed upon.
Agreements of this type are negotiated and accepted by the parties at a
point in time when it is attractive and satisfactory to the annuitant.
